TP-Link WDR4300 Won't take Gargoyle Firmware

Post by mmcannally »

Hello. I have been a gargoyle user for years. last week my router died and I got a replacement WDR4300. No mater what I do I cannot get it to load the gargoyle firmware. It gives me a file version error. I have tried renaming the file, have tried both the factory BIN and the upgrade, will not load. The hardware is V1.7. What am I doimg wrong? Thanks.

Here is the error message I get whenever I try to load anything except factory file. I did try openWRT but it will not load either. Thanks.

I have tried many different file names. If I use the name of the openwrt file it rejects it. If I rename the file, any file, to what should be an acceptable file name, it accepts the file but immediately stops and gives the above error message.

wdr4300v1_en_3_14_3_up_boot(150518).bin is one of the ones I have tried.

If you want to return the original firmware to the router (this is the file you declare), you must follow these instructions (you will edit the file in the Linux distribution): https://openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wdr4 ... l_firmware

Code: Select all

wget or scp the stock firmware file to /tmp/
cd /tmp
dd if=orig.bin of=tplink.bin skip=257 bs=512
However, if you want to upload firmware to the Gargoyle router, the file must be in the form *.factory.bin : https://www.gargoyle-router.com/downloa ... actory.bin

:!: Make sure it is really this model and the version from the bottom of the label (software identification may not be accurate).
