WinSCP for Mac OS X

Post by Volaris »

I'm not sure how many Gargoyle users are Mac users, but I'll share the following since it has been really helpful for me.

Sometimes you want to view or edit files in your router via SCP. I've always been a huge fan of WinSCP, the free open source SCP client on Windows, which is not available on Mac. So I used WineBottler to package it as a Mac app.

If you already have Wine, Wineskin, WineBottler, or PlayOnMac installed, you can download the following small version:

If you don't have any of above programs installed, you need the following bigger standalone version that includes the necessary Wine files to run Windows programs:

It's the latest 5.7.5 version. If you want to read more about it or want to donate to the group that made it possible, visit their homepage:

You don't need to install it, just unzip it and run the file. After unzipping it, right click and click open. This is necessary because it's from an unidentified developer. To log into your router, the file protocol is SCP, host name is your router's IP address (usually 192.168.1.1), user name is root, and password is the password you use to log into your router. You can always send the app to the Trash if you don't plan on using it anymore.

Lastly, if you download it, let me know if it works for you! :D
QoS Tip: Don't complicate your QoS settings. Gargoyle evenly splits available bandwidth between active devices as needed. Just delete all your classification rules and leave only one normal service class and you're done. No more arguing over bandwidth.
