WRT54G v3 As a Repeater & Client

Post by NGowner »

What's the trick to getting the Linksys WRT54G operating correctly as a Wireless Client and a Wireless Repeater at the same time?

I can't seem to get it to work as both. It's fine as a Wireless Client, but as soon as I enable the Repeater option, it stops working, e.g., won't connect to the Access Point, won't pass data from the Ethernet ports, can't log into the control panel. It's like it dies.

My whole network is using WPA2 encryption.

Suggestions?

I am thinking this may not work with the b43 driver used by OpenWRT (and therefor Gargoyle) on this router.

That driver seems to want to do only one thing at a time. If you have a non-broadcom router I think you will find it works.

I was testing the b43 driver on a somewhat related issue and observed it has its shortcomings.

If you want you could try the OpenWRT trunk and see if you can get it to work there. Might be interesting.
