SDK Problems
Eric, I got my Linux box up and followed your instructions on installing the SDK for OpenWRT and making the helloworld sample program. First I want to thank you for the great job of documenting this process which no doubt saved me countless hours of work. I found two issues with the Wiki which I wil...

Difference between .trx and .bin files?
I read the installation Wiki and there is a brief description of the difference between a .trx file and .bin files. It says The *.bin images are identical to the generic *.trx image, except they have a model-specific header that allows for easy installation. I would like some further understanding a...

Re: New Bandwidth Monitor in 1.0.5
Regarding 1). You have a backup/restore function already. Does this work across revisions of the firmware? If so it seem to me that there is no need to be tricky about this. Just perform the backup using a web script and save it on the user's PC, then upload the new image (which wipes all user setti...

Re: QoS Philosophy
No problem on the Wiki. But I think some more work is still needed on the Insllation section. The whole first section talks about how you can install OpenWRT and then install Gargoyle on top of it. Do you really think this is the best approach? That impression is given because so much of the install...

BW Monitoring and QoS Efficiency
Eric, I have spent a good day looking at your QoS implementation. Its going to be awhile before I come up with a complete design to show you but a couple of things. You make pretty extensive use of iptable chains for BW monitoring. I have not done any throughput testing but this has got to have an i...

Re: New Bandwidth Monitor in 1.0.5
I upgraded tonight to v1.0.6. I'm not sure why but my WRT54G-TM hung up several times during the initial booting and gave be a scare. But now it seems to be back in the saddle. Some comments. 1) How about an automative backup and restore of user data when doing an upgrade? Reconfiguring is a major h...

Re: QoS Philosophy
In a few days I will have a Linux development platform up so I can extract your sources and make some designs and suggestions. The idea will be as I said to make an implementation that solves the basic issues I outlined out of the box so your novice user can just turn it on and get some value. It wi...

Re: QoS Philosophy
Sounds like a plan. Look for the thread "Problem with QOS, rtorrent, youtube" over at DD-WRT. Its quite long but read it all and follow my instructions there. I will check for a post from you on that thread and respond if you have issues. Anyway in this thread I want to talk about Gargoyle...
