But is it possible to backup config, update firmare, restore config? NO, settings cannot be maintained - Gargoyle 1.10.0 is built on the old OpenWrt (Chaos Calmer) platform and version 1.11.0 (1.12.0) is built on the new "LEDE" platforms. Here the configuration varies accordingly. However...

The wan mac address change every boot, if leave as default.
