Support for the router is present in Attitude Adjustment (which Garogyle is based on), but Gargoyle does not have a line in the default profile to build for WL-WR841NDv8.x routers. You can add '-tl-wr841n-v8-squashfs-' to gargoyle/targets/ar71xx/profiles/default/profile_images and try to compile it ...

You could be using only 1 antenna because power savings is enabled.

The code has been committed to the gargoyle repository. The only way to use it is to compile yourself.

As I recall the original TP-Link firmware is 192.168.0.1. If you still have a DHCP lease, try to release it & renew.

Those aren't OpenWrt's bleeding edge (a term they actually use). The builds posted are after 1.5.10, but still on OpenWrt's Attitude Adjustment branch.
