Re: QoS, slow CPU, fast WAN
Big thanks to all for the info. Yes will most likely upgrade to a faster router (eg. Linksys wrt ac1200 or anything that our experienced users suggest here) to match my WAN speed (100mbps up/down) and use case (Tor relay, NAS, VPN, transmission). Cheers

Re: QoS, slow CPU, fast WAN
What's your router model? Enabling QoS will put more strain on the router, so it will actually make your internet speed "slightly" slower. Although, if you don't use Quotas at all, disabling the Bandwidth Monitor will actually help significantly at reaching higher download speeds, even wi...

QoS, slow CPU, fast WAN
Hi All,
Just wondering, if router's CPU speed is the constraint and WAN speed is not the bottleneck, will QoS help in any way?
Cheers

Re: [solved]WDR3600 won't run Tor server on Gargoyle 1.10.0
No, you can’t set that flag to 0 in the configuration mode that Gargoyle uses. It shouldn’t use that much RAM. But you could setup a swap partition. OK, got it. Had a swap setup and running. One more question if I may ask: is there a way to reuse tor server's old fingerprint, after reinstallation?

Re: [solved]WDR3600 won't run Tor server on Gargoyle 1.10.0
May I ask if there's a way to disable the directory service (V2Dir) which requires 140MB ram/cache and is too taxing for wdr3600? Will adding "DirCache 0" in torrc work?

Re: [solved]WDR3600 won't run Tor server on Gargoyle 1.10.0
Update: the Tor server has been running well for about 2 weeks. The major 'issue' seems to be the following log warnings: Your system clock just jumped 242 seconds forward; assuming established circuits no longer work. Your computer is too slow to handle this many circuit creation requests! Please c...

Web Interface sluggish response with PC
When I administer Gargoyle through the web interface with a Mac, things are very snappy and responsive (much less than 1sec). But they get slow and sluggish (1-2sec when there's spare capacity, 5-6sec when CPU is busy) if I work on a PC. The uhttpd process seems to spike (~35%CPU) whenever I jump to...

Re: [solved]WDR3600 won't run Tor server on Gargoyle 1.10.0
Tor server got killed and the attempts to auto restart also failed. Manually rebooted the router. Tor server consumes >107%VSZ a short while after. Is there a way to disable the directory service or other tor services such that tor server consume less memory? Oh BTW, a few hours after writing up the...

Re: [solved]WDR3600 won't run Tor server on Gargoyle 1.10.0
Update: it seems that Tor server runs fine, after going back to oem firmware, formatting the usb thumb, and then applying factory.bin and extroot.
Maybe one should restore firmware default prior to applying sysupgrade.bin to ensure that old settings are removed completely?

Re: WDR3600 won't run Tor server on Gargoyle 1.10.0
guess i did it right, but got the same error. Tor 0.3.1.7 (git-6babd3d9ba9318b3) was the running version. a quick web search gave me the impression that this might be due to a bug in Tor itself. begin log -------------- Wed Nov 15 10:39:00 2017 user.notice root: Tor seems to have died unexpectedly, ...
