You want the lan port of your netgear into the WAN of your gargoyle.
I am pretty sure you can do PPTP (I think it might be a plugin) but if it applies to Openwrt it should work fine in gargoyle.

Actually it's about a cache option that was available in AA, removed in BB, and repatched in for CC but then not back ported. I may suggest it to Eric for the next build. I'd have to find the relevant documentation again though. EDIT: the link you posted is the exact thread i was talking about lol. ...

updated successfully on WNDR3800 from 1.7.0 to 1.7.1 with attempt to preserve settings ticked.

I would suggest that perhaps your ping target is unavailable.
Try using a manual ping target and use openDNS or similar and see if it works. Then we can try and pick a more suitable server.
