Re: Gargoyle as a access point
Sure thats easy. Just turn off dhcp, and give the router a fixed ip address that is in the same subnet as the rest of the network. Then just plug the ethernet cable into the 4 port switch section instead of the wan section. If you want to be slightly fancy, you can leave dhcp on, and set it to anoth...

Re: cheapest replacement for aging buffalo wzr-hp-g300nh
I dont know if you can get it, but JB weld or electrical potting poured over the whole board would turn it into a giant heatsink with no hot spots. Ive done this with many boards. PS, the wzr has screw heads that are tamper proof. You will need to either drill them out our get a tamper set. Or get r...

Re: cheapest replacement for aging buffalo wzr-hp-g300nh
The RTL8197D SoC doesnt have a ddwrt or open wrt build, even in alpha. Why would you buy this if you want a 100% gargoyle 1.6.2 compatible router? its also 8MB Flash and 64MB ram which is way less than the buffalo.

Re: cheapest replacement for aging buffalo wzr-hp-g300nh
Another vote for the WDR3600, coming from a wzr-hp-g300nh owner. However you are going to need BB, 1.6.2 does not play well. Its been running solid since i installed the BB build posted in the 1.6.2 thread, but its just openwrt, no gargoyle yet. I recommend the WDR3600 as well. I'm having some prob...

Re: cheapest replacement for aging buffalo wzr-hp-g300nh
The 3600 has 8MB of flash though. How much space is left after Gargoyle is installed? I'm asking because on my G300nh I use DNSCrypt and install a couple of other things like Nano and TCPdump, and I'm concerned that 8MB might not be enough. I'd rather not use USB storage if necessary. https://samho...

Re: cheapest replacement for aging buffalo wzr-hp-g300nh
If you dont need super reliable wifi (some drop outs, i wouldnt game with it), the vote is still The $40-60 3400 or 3600 (100t vs gigabit switch) Even with gargoyle. Plus BB went final at the beginning of the month, so the gargoyle front end should be updated at any time. If you google for "goo...

Re: WDR3600 wifi range
I just installed a 1.6.2 And i get exelence range compared to my old WZR-300HP, and the wrz was tested at almost 1 watt out and 29.5db, with a fcc limit of 30db.
I do lose 1 bar if i switch to 40mhz vs 20mhz. Another trick is use channel 1,6,11.

Re: I need help choosing a router.
The buff router is older than dirt, its a rebranded WZR-HP-AG300H, which is just a dual channel WZR-HP-G300NH, which has served me nicely for YEARS. However since this is the dawn of AC wifi, i would go with a cheaper: TP-Link TL-WR1043ND 32meg of ram 400mhz gigabit switch 300mbs replaceable antenna...

Install a VAP in gargoyle
Hello, im coming from openwrt since it was a bit above my head, i was running dd-wrt before that. I have a Gargoyle Version:1.5.10 Model:Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH. It was real easy to setup however a feature is missing. Normally. I have a 2nd wireless vap installed, with no encryption, directly connecte...
