serial cable will fix it I have the same problem, the device can not be seen even on the serial console. are you 100% your serial cable is connected properly? I tried by http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wr941nd#oem.installation.using.the.tftp.method my device is 941ND
