Re: Successfully flashed a router? Tell Us!

Gargoyle Version: 1.13.0.2 (b69041f8)
TP-Link Archer A7 v5

1, rename the gargoyle-1.13.0.2-ath79-generic-tplink_archer-a7-v5-squashfs-factory.bin to ArcherC7v5_tp_recovery.bin
2, reset the TP-Link Archer A7 v5 to factory default configuration. reboot.
3, login the TP-Link OEM firmware again, at 192.168.0.1
upgrade from TP-Link OEM firmware directly to ArcherC7v5_tp_recovery.bin
4, ArcherC7v5 will reboot with with only one wifi LED light on, besides the power light. search for a WiFi AP Gargoyle,
login the Gargoyle firmware at IP 192.168.1.1. default psw: password, default lauguage is Polski
5, upgrade the Gargoyle firmware from factory.bin to sysupgrade.bin to get both wifi LED lights on.
reset to default configuration, and reboot.
6, so far, everything works.

note,
1, I followed the openwrp instruction to rename the factory.bin, for this initial flashing. but I'm not sure it is necessary

2, TFTP flash instructions for openwrt

Re: Successfully flashed a router? Tell Us!

Flashed 1.12.0 on TP-Link Archer C7 V2 that was on stock firmware. Using the router as a dumb AP and it has been rock solid with no disconnections. :D

Re: Successfully flashed a router? Tell Us!

Flashed 1.12.0 on TP-Link Archer C7(US) v5. Used it for a day with multiple 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz clients - no issues no report.

It is Ramips which we already support (good), but it is a new profile (MT7621) which we don't have (bad).
It would be better if someone who has already compiled and tested one could send me the .config to check and use.
Until then i'd prefer to leave it.
Lantis wrote:I’ll look at it, but I’d prefer the file in it’s original format. This one appears sorted/processed

@Lantis, everyone

I have great interest on MT7621 routers (specially that Xiaomi device) considering its reasonably cheap.

My scenario is:

From 2019 and on, I`ll have a 100/100 link.
My old WDR4300 can't keep up these kind of speeds. It`ll top at about 65mbps with QOS.

What I want:
- GBit switch;
- BWmon;
- QOS with good RTT while ACC and MinRTT on and link limit at about 85-90mbps.

It seems that what I need is about 128mb of RAM and a LOT of horsepower on CPU.

The easy way would be buying an Archer c7 or some MVebu, but it is prohibitly expensive in Brazil. BRL 450,00 for the archer; BRL 1.800,00 for a WRT1900AC.

I can buy a Xiaomi Mi Router 3g (or 4) for about BRL 150,00 from Gearbest, so that seems the way to go.

I can buy one of these routers and provide any information needed. I can see this topic has some directions, but i'll definetly need some babysitting in the process.

Questions:
1- Considering the MiRouter3G has a dual core 880mhz processor, do you guys think it might have the horsepower I need?
2- Do you believe I'll find the help I need here?

Re: Successfully flashed a router? Tell Us!

I recently stumbled upon Gargoyle and wanted to flash my router. It didn't look like it would work on my ASUS RT-N66U, so I purchased the TP-LINK Archer C7 AC1750.

I was hoping I could just flash the router and be on my way. But, I was having problems flashing the firmware, due to this error:

Code: Select all

"Error Code: 18005
Upgrade unsuccessfully because the version of the upgraded file was incorrect. Please check the file name."
I saw this error mentioned in several searches I did. But, the solutions either didn't work or got far more technical that I wanted. After more searching I stumbled across an article where the author was experiencing the exact same problem I had. Better yet, there was a simple solution that worked.

I can't seem to post URLs, but you could try googling the title. The article I found was titled: OpenWRT / LEDE on late serial number TP-LINK Archer C7 V2

http://www.wolfteck.com/2018/03/25/open ... her_c7_v2/

I'm happy to be running Gargoyle 1.10.0.

Re: Successfully flashed a router? Tell Us!

TP-Link Archer C7 v2
Stock Firmware 3.14.3 Build 150427 36706n

Flashed Gargoyle Ver 1.10 factory.bin (sorry I had to shorten file name to get it to update) by using update firmware option in stock firmware.

Did not take on first attempt even after reboots. However, upon second attempt it did with no further issues.

No idea why first attempt did not work, but it did not brick device; and I just needed to connect with original router ip address to re-connect for second attempt.

GUI is very user friendly. Setup openVPN with no problem either.

So far I'm happy with set-up.

Re: Successfully flashed a router? Tell Us!

Archer C7 v2.

Renamed the BIN to factory.bin and flashed from TP-Link software to Gargoyle. Took a couple minutes and was good to go.

Re: Successfully flashed a router? Tell Us!

TP link Archer C7 V2

I followed an older procedure of a 3-step flash:
• factory-to-ddwrt-US.bin (reverts to ddwrt)
• ArcherC7v2_webrevert.bin (Flash to a version to TPLink that can be flashed to Gargoyle)
• gargoyle_1.9.2-ar71xx-generic-archer-c7-v2-squashfs-factory.bin

Everything works great!

My question is, "Has the bricking problem been solved?" I know this was an issue with 1.9.x, but I don't know if 1.9.2 has resolved that problem.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you buy your router from? I just want to make sure I get the right version.

So far, it seems there are version 3 (some problematic), version 2 original - (working), version 2 + protection against 3rd party firmware - (extra work involved).

It's a bit confusing as to which place sells which versions.

thanks
