I was able to fix this last night, I figured I'd post what I learned, in case someone sees this later. Part of my problem was that I had misconfigured the router into client mode, so it wasn't able to connect to the AP. For some reason, that meant that it wasn't willing to respond on its own IP addr...

I tried flashing a brand new Rosewill RNX-GX4 with Gargoyle. The flash when fine. Then, via wired, I tried to set up the router as a wireless bridge.
