Thanks for the replies guys.
i got sick of messing with settings so I bought a gaming router. it works fine now. i'll think about gargoyle again when i have need for its bandwith and QoS options in the future.

Hiya, Thanks for the reply. my modem only gives the ip address that my ISP gives me. there is no DHCP configuration on the modem, there is not even a login at the gateway address, this is locked down at the ISP level. for some reason though, when i disable DHCP on Gargoyle, the devices in the house ...

Figured it out. Chrome browser was using the Admin password to the router (which i had as the same as the wifi, but in lower case) and auto changing it on me each time i pressed saved. for some reason regardless of what page i was on.
