Meanwhile, I've seen The thread that mentions possible Hilink support in 1.9.0
I have reimaged the router and again added the device id echo command to rc.local
The 3G option shows but ifconfig doesnt show an IP address allocated to wlan0

Finally getting a chance to play with this again over the Xmas holidays. Looking at the activity lights on the Hilink modem, it does dial up and connect to the 3G network.
