Alternatively, is it really as simple as a simple after adding the Gargoyle repository to /etc/opkg.conf?

TEW-712BR is supported by OpenWRT, and a couple similar ar71xx TEW-* routers are already available on the Gargoyle downloads. (tew-732br and tew-673gru)
