You won't be able to. You'll end up with conflicting arp table. The switch of the gateway modem will be on your LAN and WAN at the same time. I'd be very suprised if you can do VLANs on your cable modem gateway. Anyway, you can setup your gateway as bridge and check how it behaves. In the worst case...
