Re: My Gargoyle experience, and why I am going back to OpenW

But in theory, you could get the same QoS functionality that Gargoyle offers in OpenWRT? I'm quite satisfied but there are tidbits (specially regarding fine-tuning Wireless Connections) that I kinda miss from DD-WRT for instance. I see no reason why not. Gargoyle is based on OpenWrt after all. If y...

Way back when I did it originally, I think it was just a matter of compiling it.
I didn't bother to do it again this time - QoS seems too unreliable in general these days :(

It has the upload QoS stuff (which is simple), but not the download/active QoS (which is complicated and why I wanted to use Gargoyle).

Re: IPV6 for future releases

Unfortunately, lack of support in the kernel even is a deal-breaker issue for me. If it were at least in the kernel, I could just configure it manually.

OpenWrt Attitude Adjustment supports IPv6 just fine, and has for years.

A firewall is really only necessary if your hosts are insecure anyway.

My Gargoyle experience, and why I am going back to OpenWrt

I wanted to try Gargoyle because I had ported its active/download QoS to OpenWrt a number of years ago and found it to work well. This is a "killer feature" IMO, but it seems like it will likely be easier for me to port it to OpenWrt again, than use Gargoyle itself at this time. After inst...

Namecoin/OpenNIC support broken

None of the DNS servers listed in /etc/config/dhcp seem to work.

Too bad there's no p2p namecoin resolver, that'd be awesome...

Failure to install from added repository

I've added my repository to opkg.conf, and gpkg seems to update the list from it successfully (I can zcat /var/opkg-lists/bfgminer, and see my packages in 'gpkg list' and 'gpkg info bfgminer'), but actually attempting to install the package fails with: ERROR: No package named bfgminer found, try upd...

Multiple WiFi SSIDs

I'd like to run a WPA AP, but also offer a mesh node.

Might also be nice to offer an open AP with tor-or-nothing access.

Shorter DHCP lease time

I prefer to lease dynamically assigned IPs for 5 minute intervals, so when I set a static DHCP it takes effect fairly quickly. Gargoyle's GUI only allows hour intervals for DHCP.

Hurricane Electric and/or Custom Dynamic DNS

I can use HE dynamic DNS just fine with normal OpenWrt Attitude Adjustment (via the Custom option), but Gargoyle seems to have a hard-coded list thar doesn't include HE :(
