Re: Default QoS Rules Contest

Some interesting ideas but nothing for the upload rules? The small packet ideas seem to me to be most appropriately handled on the upload side since that is where these are. My sense is that people who are having problems with "bufferbloat" metrics or slow web page loads under heavy load s...

Re: Help with 1st time installation

Well the good news is that Gargoyle can do everything you want. But the cost to make it work really well is going to be some time, effort, study and testing on your part. Once you have the router in your possession you can read the web pages on it and of course the documentation on this site. These ...

Default QoS Rules Contest **Complete**

*********************** Final Results ******************************* The rule set described below in this post is the winner. The new default rule set has been added to the Gargoyle repo and will appear as the default in releases after v1.10.0. Thanks to everyone who contributed on this thread. New...

Re: Couple requests

Thanks for the ideas. The only comment I will make is regarding the ACC simplification idea. Fundamentally your CPU is overloaded. This means that nothing on the router should be expected to work correctly. QoS requires considerable CPU power to handle high traffic flow. On the other hand ACC itself...

Re: Losing GUI access when wireless bridge/repeater mode selected.

So I learned that Gargoyle is now using relayd. That's new.

Would be nice to see a little documentation on this added to the Gargoyle site.

Re: Losing GUI access when wireless bridge/repeater mode selected.

I have noticed a few problems in the GUI for this myself with v1.9.2 and possibly previous versions. 1) The config screen says the bridge IP should NOT be in the gateway's subnet. This is exactly not correct. The bridge and the gateway must be in the same subnet. This should be corrected. 2) When I ...

Re: Quotas Not actually working!

Your DSL modem should have a web page. They often also collect statistics on the data passing through the modem. I would suggest comparing this data to what is recorded by Gargoyle and your provider. You can learn how to access your modem here: https://www.gargoyle-router.com/wiki/doku.php?id=adsl_m...

Re: QOS upload min BW timing

is there any way to reserve a min BW (meaning enforced max BW on everything else) if and only if a class is active but all the time the class is active? This is precisely the function of MinBW. The processing delay to enforce it in the router will be measured in milliseconds. Did you reduce the upl...

Re: QOS upload min BW timing

MinBW is always enforce, there is no one second lag on the upload side. The minBW setting is not specified in %. Why not tell us what you set it to when you tried? To use MinBW it is necessary to know what the minimum bandwidth your application needs is. What is that bandwidth? What is your downlink...
