I use a netgear wndr3700 ver.1 to do all my routing and a wndr3800 as a repeater on same ssid on opposite corner of house. works flawlessly for full coverage. clients that start out at one end of home and make their way to other end take their time switching over.. but they do switch over eventually.

Well it all worked perfectly.. for about 3 hours, then both 2.4GHz and 5 GHz radios failed when i went to mount unit on a wall. Rebooted radios worked again. I shrugged went to mount it and radios would fail. I tested it and basically the second router went from horizontal to vertical signal would s...

As a relative newbee I would have to agree that the most anxiety comes from flashing the new firmware. If you want to avoid that I say sure pull the trigger on the one sold in the store here.
