Re: Suggested Feature: Blocked Pages Notification
...I've decided to work with Gargoyle ... My main reason ... [it] includes timed blocking ... The problem with the Blacklist approach is that I can't go on to achieve the timed blocking I'd be able to achieve with the Whitelist approach (ie. block everything except for Whitelist specified destinati...

Re: Listing remote admins in connected hosts
heuristic: Thanks for your posting. What you say makes sense.
I've been exploring Gargoyle for a while and would now like to delve into remote admin.
I figure the all that is required is knowledge of Gargoyle's public IP address and then set it for PPPoE connection. It is that right?

Re: Suggested Feature: Blocked Pages Notification
Workaround. I found that if I restrict myself to the Exception options inside the Restrictions feature everything works just great.

Re: Quota % used wrong for housemate
maxwolfie: I read your post with interest. I'm wondering is your ISP as generous when it comes to imposing limits? Are you in Australia?
PS. Probably better if you don't mention the name of your ISP in public. The resulting stampede to sign up could adversely affect your service.![Wink ;)](./images/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif)

Re: Suggested Feature: Blocked Pages Notification
Thanks. That gives me hope. The problem is that what I call the Wikipedia (Gargoyle filter) takes forever to load pages... if at all. The OpenDNS Filter seems to work OK. I suspect it's due to a simple mistake in settings on my part. Here are some snap shots of my settings: http://i214.photobucket.c...

Re: Suggested Feature: Blocked Pages Notification
I've been testing Firewall Restrictions. This is a great feature and I thought it would be interesting to see if it could be used in addition to OpenDNS filtering. Sadly this does not appear to be possible. Firewall Restrictions work OK on their own but if you to implement OpenDNS filtering in addit...

Re: Dynamic DNS Improvements
... As a feature suggestion, it would be good if I could use the force DNS option but have exceptions for 1 or 2 client PCs. (ie. OpenDNS forced for kids site blocking but adult PCs use an alternate DNS configured on the PC) ... Alternatively use multiple PPPoE connections. See my comment at http:/...

Re: New Bandwidth Monitor in 1.0.5
Oh. The other reason I was pursuing a PPPoE connection for DDNS was that many ISPs will provide you with up to 4 public IPs. Use one for your router and a separate one for the kid's router.BikeMike wrote:...Difficult to do too much testing, it upsets the "natives" (teenage kids).

Re: Squid Cache
Thanks for your advice. I hadn't considered the speed improvement of wired versus WiFi.

Re: Squid Cache
DoesItMatter: Thanks for your comments. If nothing else they prompted me to do a little more research. I found typical cache size to be 4MB with the max about 100MB. Like you indicated this is certainly not suitable for movies. BTW when I mentioned "within the firewall" I had in mind a ser...
