I figured it out. I had to set the lan interface to dhcp and not static. That got the internet buzzing...so now to get some packages

I used the ap51 flash utility and the latest from the experimental section. I had to stay directly connected to the fon and use the wan port to get an IP. Anyone try using airocrack-ng and accompanying tools with the Gargoyle firmware on a fon 2201 with packet injection? I have not gotten my 2201 working yet, but was wondering if this would work.
