OK, took the plunge and bought a TL-WR841N v7.2 As described by others, could not install the Gargoyle 1.4.5 v5 firmware through the TP-Link web interface (wrong HW version), so did the following: 1. Successfully flashed TL-WR841 v7.2 with Gargoyle 1.4.5 for v5
Had to go through OpenWRT to install (see other thread)
Happy as a bunny for now, but hope to see official support for v7.2 at a later stage

OK, after several evenings fighting with this, the conclusion is that the problem lies with the Seagate FreeAgent Desktop 2TB enclosure, not with Gargoyle/OpenWRT.
