Conditional 2nd DNS server
Hi, I run pihole as my DNS server. In the router (running Gargoyle 1.12.0) I have the IP of my pihole server as first DNS. Because occasionally pihole crashes (once a month, and always when I'm not around to fix things) I have 1.1.1.1 (CloudFlare) listed in the router as my 2nd DNS server. This 2nd ...

Re: dyndns hacked?
I removed the 0.0.0.0 line from hosts and added local=/checkmyip.com/ to dnsmasq.conf. A ping to checkmyip.com results in a 'could not find host' error, so that sounds good. I'll see if the DNS error will still occur, hopefully not.
Thanks for your help Roman!

Re: dyndns hacked?
I have added
0.0.0.0 checkmyip.com
to the hosts file as suggested, and rebooted the router but now the DNS entry gets updated (when it randomly selects checkmyip.com) to 127.0.0.1. So that still causes my services to halt.
Any idea to fix this?

Re: dyndns hacked?
Ah, that explains everything! Every time Gargoyle checked its IP address and randomly chose to use checkmyip.com it got the false IP address and updated the DNS records, the next check could have used another detector and correct itself again. I could not understand the random behaviour of when my s...

Re: dyndns hacked?
Thanks for that Roman. Can you confirm that Gargoyle uses checkmyip.com and that that is the reason Gargoyle thinks it needs to update the DNS record with a (false) IP address?
If I do the 0.0.0.0 checkmyip.com workaround, will the router have a backup service to check the ip with?
Thanks!

dyndns hacked?
Hi, Running Gargoyle 1.8.1 on TP-Link TL-WR1043N/ND v1. I have my own domain "somedomain.com" with namecheap.com, hosting I do myself on my own server, so DNS record at namecheap (a hosting provider) for "somedomain.com" should be my home IP address. I use the Dynamic DNS feature...

Re: Update could use warning
That's for the settings! Of course I made a backup of those and after the flashing restored them.
What I'm talking about is the data; the logs of used bandwidth etc. Those are gone after an update.

Update could use warning
Just upgraded to 1.3.15 and discovered all bandwith usage and distribution data has gone (been reset). This data was the very reason I am using Gargoyle. A warning I would lose all that data by upgrading would have saved me from this unpleasant surprise.

Time acts funny
In New Zealand (UTC+12, at this moment NO daylight saving) it it at this very moment 13:21, the router (1.3.14) however says:
Current Date & Time: 06/22/11 12:21 NZST
which is one hour behind what it should be. I'm using the Oceania NTP server.
Any idea?
Cheers,
Dr.R. Clavan
