ok, sorry through my pure dumbness, I downloaded the "wrong" firmware. I realised the correct firmware should be gargoyle_1.12.0-ar71xx-nand-wndr4300-squashfs-sysupgrade.tar got myself confused with the tl-wdr4300 firmware. My Xiaomi R3G is in use right now, so I can't test with your sugge...

What file are you using to upgrade for each one?
I'd suggest a factory reset of both and trying to upgrade again.

By the way, when you say "factory reset" do you mean reset to manufacturer firmware? or reset to Gargoyle default config (by pressing reset button)??

For Netgear WNDR4300 i used
gargoyle_1.12.0-ar71xx-generic-tl-wdr4300-v1-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin


For Xiaomi R3G i used
gargoyle_1.12.0-ramips-mt7621-mir3g-squashfs-sysupgrade.tar

and both were upgraded through the web interface.
