Is the issue with sysupgrade not properly signalling completion of the flash process to the web UI specific to the ipq806x architecture (which I know won't be formally supported in 1.12) or more general?

To find out more about whether your E3372 is working properly, you may want to consider trying the ROOter firmware which specialises in supporting such modems. It is also based on OpenWrt, as is Gargoyle, so if your router is supported it should be easy to flash to test your modem (don't attempt to ...
