Are you sure the ip address in bridged mode is 192.168.0.1? For example virgin cable routers use 192.168.0.1 in router mode as their default ip address but can be accessed at 192.168.100.1 in router or modem (bridged mode). Thanks for feedback Lantis. Not sure what the issue was, but here is what I did to solve the issue: I did reset back to factory settings both the cable modem and router to ensure that I start from a clean slate. Once the cable modem was set to bridge mode I did not connect the laptop anymore to test...
