Question before I get started

Hello,
I'm interested in Gargoyle to help control access to devices on our wireless network based on a schedule. We have 4 kids and if I don't limit it they'll stay up all night.
My question is: if I make a change to the schedule for a particular device on Gargoyle, does it cause all the other devices to lose connectivity while the router or software restarts itself?
I'm probably going to buy a WRT1900AC tonight. Two of the kids are playing online games while another might be streaming netflix and throughput seems important.
Thanks!

Yes that is a possibility.
Some setting changes require the firewall to restart, which will leave devices connected to the wifi but unable to reach the internet for a minute or two.
Some changes require a full reboot which obviously disconnects everyone.
Scheduled usage restrictions are only firewall restarts as far as I can remember.
These restarts are only if you change a setting. Not part of the routers normal operation once set up.

Thanks for the response. I've been trying to read as much as I can about the WRT1200AC and I've been to your website and looked at the downloads you offer.
Is the WRT1200AC a solid option right now? I see that you've invested a lot of time in it and I'm hoping that's because you see it as a good router.

Hi there mate when restartting the firewall on my wrt1900AC v2 it takes about 20 - 30 seconds. Most devices dont no that the firewall has bin restarted because if they are streaming then the firewall comes back up before the buffer runs out. I cant say anything about the wrt1200 as i don't have one but there is lots of people who do hopefully some one will chime in to let you know. When looking here:
https://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/linksys/wrt_ac_series
The v1 and v2 are both working with Openwrt / Gargoyle. What router do you have write now? You mite be able to test it out on that before spending.

The WRT1x00 series of routers are excellent and powerful devices.
I'd recommend them for users with fast connections, or who want to slightly futureproof their network.
You do pay a premium price, as a consequence.
