PPPoE and Gargoyle

Hi, I'm a bit dumb on routers but here's my problem I can't find an answer to:
I'm with a UK ISP fibre service. Incoming is to a BTOpenreach box followed by the ISPs Thomson TG589vac router which is pretty dumb like me and can't block websites. This is a standard setup for UK ISPs including Plusnet.

I have a Netgear WNDR 3700V2 with Gargoyle firmware installed. The Thomson router contains my embedded PPPoE settings, including a username and password provided by the ISP.

I want to replace the Thomson router with the netgear Gargoyle modded router but I can't find info or setup screens refering to PPoE credentials settings. I looked at the netgear OE manual and it does have the setup for PPPoE. I don't want 2 routers in series which increases my standby power and isn't Eco friendly.

Can I replace the Thomson router with my Gargoyle router and where do I input the PPPoE settings - username, password etc?

Thanks

Sounds like the BT box is a VDSL modem and the TG box is a router performing PPPoE negotiation.

If that is the case, you should be able to replace the TG box with the Gargoyle and set "Connect Via" to PPPoE

The TG589vac has a PPPoE setup screen which has a (ISP provided) Username and password (grayed out). The Netgear OE rom has a similar PPPoE setup screen.

If I select 'connect via to PPPoE' in Gargoyle is there then a screen for Username and Password input I didn't spot in the Wiki screens?

I would have found it hard to believe that a Gargoyle reflash adding more functionality would take away something that was there in the OE firmware?

Thanks

Yes, PPPoE allows you to enter a username and password, as you'd expect.

Thanks, I just got a username and password from my ISP and I'm all set to go. It would be nice if the Gargoyle PPPoE setup screen was included in the wiki screenshots.

With all the talk about child protection, blocking websites and firewalls for security I would have thought the ISP supplied router would have controls built in. But it seems it doesn't and they get around it by supplying a basic router with local PC security software. I bet it takes over the Windoze registry, is a pain to remove and has hard to remove or stop background services running.
