Hey guys, I need help with the following, so help would be very appreciated, because I am no expert in this unfortunately..so to explain my situation

I have a primary ASUS RT-N18U (Wireless router mode / PPPoE) router wired to my ISP modem, and I use it for wireless internet connection to my PC, mobile phone..and the connection is top notch, it gives me all of my 50/20 MB.

Also, i have stock newest firmware on the ASUS RT-N18U.

But unfortunately when I also try wirelessly connecting the PS4 to this router, the connection is utter crap, and I don't know why.

So what I would like to do is, use an old WR1043ND v1 router, which I don't use anymore (just flashed it with 1.8 stable firmware).

I would like to use somehow use this second router and LAN it / wire it with PS4, to give me good internet connection (I would use it only for this).

But I don't know exactly, on how to configure this second router.

But I would also like to retain else, exactly how it is..I don't want to half or weaken the primary router's signal / bandwidth..and I would still like to use that primary router to give me wireless connection to my PC, mobile phone etc.

Can someone, please tell me how to configure this old / second router..which mode must I use, what IP's must I put in to achieve the desired..because there are many different options..WDS, Client Bridge, Repeater, Repeater bridge etc.

One question tough..how is, this second router connected to the primary router, so it can get it's internet connection..since I see, that it is configured as gateway, and not Wireless Bridge / Repeater ?..because this second router is not next to the primary router..it is seperated by a couple of rooms and a dozen od walls..so it cannot be LAN connected to the primary router as in your graph

Ok, so I have done the following (screenshot), and it surprisingly works for now..but just to clarify a few things, if someone can please answer me.

By choosing client bridge on this second router, with this I didn't half the primary router's wifi bandwith / signal, to my computer right ?

And the ping isn't any higher on my PS4 because it is now wired to second router which is client bridge right ?..because I am doing all of this, so that the PS4 has the best connection possible.

Also I don't need for the second router to share it's connection via wifi, so that is why I disabled the repeater..I also don't need WAN port, so that is disabled, because I only need LAN port to my PS4..everything that I stated is ok right?..please correct me if I am wrong.

And one more thing, what operation mode must I choose in gargoyle configuration for PS4 wired connection via LAN, because I have no clue what all of those letters mean ?

For you guys, to understand better...

you need to make sure the "primary router" and "second router" are on different subnets. You will get unexpected results if they are the same (assuming double NAT, haven't read your post clealy enough)

e.g.

192.168.1.x

192.168.5.x

for performance a cable would be much better to connect both routers together.

Note that in this case he's using an older version so they MUST be in the same subnet.

Regarding the subnets, on DD-WRT it says the following:

You don't need to worry about the primary router as long as you set your CB to the SAME subnet. What this means is, if the primary router has an IP of 192.168.A.X, you need to set the CB router to an IP of 192.168.A.Z. Most primary routers will be at 192.168.1.1. So, when you are configuring your CB router, set it to 192.168.1.6

Goto Setup, basic setup and enter a router Local IP address of 192.168.1.6. (Presuming your primary router is on the 192.168.1.x subnet. Client bridge must match the subent of the primary router)

There is another option tough, I ordered two powerline adapters, before I knew, that I could use my second router as a client bridge..and I'm recieving them today.

1. But I don't know if that is going to be a better solution, than wireless, I currently have..so I will have two powerline adapters..I can wire the first adapter to the primary router, and wire the second adapter to the second router..and then use a switch from the second router to PS4.

2. I can use the powerline adapters directly for PS4..I would use the first adapter and wire it to the primary router..and use the second adapter and wire it to the PS4.

3. I can use the powerline adapter directly for PS4..I would use the first adapter and wire it to the modem instead of the primary router..and use the second adapter and wire it to the PS4.

4. To leave everything as it is now..my secondary router beeing connected to the primary router wirelessly via client bridge..and the PS4 beeing connected via wire to the secondary router.

5. Ok, so right next to the secondary router I have the computer and PS4 (yes I tried ICS via computer to PS4..and it didn't work well..the PS4 constantly gave me IP fragmentation message..and I also tried Windows Network bridge, and the problem there is that I cannot use both computer's and PS4's internet simultaneously)

To the point..when setting up the client bridge yesterday, I had the secondary router wired via LAN to my computer so I could configure it right..and I noticed that my computer was still recieving the internet via this secondary router, even tough I disabled the Wifi on computer, from which I recieve the internet normally from the primary router..I could leave the secondary router connected / wired to my computer and recieve the internet from it via LAN adapter..and then also wire the PS4 and secondary router via LAN.

Which of the above options should give the the best performance in theory ?

You might need to try them all and tell us the results

Until recently the wifi was shaky especially what you are trying to do.

Ok so with option 4 yesterday, I was getting internet test results of 7/30Mb on PS4.

And I just tried option 3, and I am getting 30/75Mb internet results on PS4.

My connection is 50/20Mb otherwise, but the PS4 internet test results are very inaccurate, so no worry there..because current test results are all time high..I never before had such good connection results on PS4.

The difference is like night and day..I'm so glad I bought these power adapters..they work wonders..very happy with the results..obviously I will stay with option 3..again thank you for your help guys..and if anyone has similar problems like me, remember just buy powerline adapters
