wireless connection dropping

Hello, i am currently using version 1.6.2 on model TP-Link TL-WR841N/ND v8 (TP-Link N300) and have been for quite some time. I am using a TP-Link Wireless N300 High Gain USB Adapter as a receiver. I am operating on N+G+B at 40 Mhz and windows shows im getting the full 300 Mbps connection.
So heres my problem, i can download large files, very fast, from a single server/connection all day long. I can upload/stream data at max bandwidth no problem. The issues start to occur when i use Steam to download games, it works for a period of time (anywhere from 1-10 minutes) then drops my internet connection. The internet continues to work fine for everyone else connected to the router, but not for the computer doing the downloading. I have to reconnect my wireless device to the network through windows for it to start working again. I have tried everything i could think of, including throttling Steams download speed. It has had no effect.
I noticed this also happen while Torrenting, but very rarely, and it has lead me to believe it has something to do with connection limits. As ive recently found out, Steam utilizes many many simultaneous connections to its servers in order to download games. Im not sure on the exact number but the connection list was quite long when i took a look while downloading.
I tried limiting the max number of connections to 1000 (from default 4096) to no avail. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix the problem? Does the new 1.8.1 firmware happen to address these sorts of issues specifically?
Thank you for your time.
