OpenVPN Client mode with simultaneous server connections

I have successfully managed to setup my WNDR3700 with a client OpenVPN connection to a VPN provider for privacy reasons. However I'd also like to be able to connect back to my LAN when I'm out and about as I used to when it was previously setup in server mode.
Is this possible through:

- Simultaneous VPN server and client modes, or
- OpenVPN in client mode to external VPN provider but access to LAN provided in part by port forwarding to allow SSH from WAN side
- Some other method?
