Manual backup restore

So I have done a backup of my config last week and everything was going great until I made a single config change this week and pressed save changes.

The router crashed and required a power cycle to restart. When it restarted, all settings were gone.
Attempts to restore my backup failed and caused the router to crash again.

Can someone please advise how to manually restore a backup via SCP?
Do I just copy all of the backup files over the files on the router and restart?

id be inclined to suggest that you only restore
/etc/ethers
/etc/hosts

And set everything else back up manually.
But you can restore whatever you like. I wouldn't restore the config that lead to the crash.

You are correct in that you use WinSCP to upload the individual files from inside the backup over the top of the existing one and then reboot.

Is this type of crash a known issue?
I know you have mentioned in another thread that it is happening to others.

For purposes of debugging info.
Everything was working fine but I wanted to stop video streaming on a particular device.
I logged in and went to QOS Download
I created a new rule with the destination ip was for the particular local ip address (192.168.1.82), the application protocol was http video and the class was "Shaped". Which is an existing class that limits to max 64kbit/sec download.
I pressed save changes and.... crash
