Router = TP-Link TL-WDR4300
Gargoyle Version = 1.8.1

I've been running Gargoyle for almost 3 months without problems.

It was working fine last night, but when I awoke this morning, the router appeared to be in a reset loop. I can connect to the router and internet for about a minute and then it resets, all lights flash, and drops the connection between the client and router. Both the wireless and Ethernet connection reset. After some seconds, I can reconnect again and this process repeats, resetting every 96 seconds.

Unplugging the Ethernet cable between the router and the cable modem stops the reset behavior and I can connect to the router web interface without problems. Reconnecting the cable modem starts the reset loop again. However, connecting some other device, like a laptop to the router uplink Ethernet port, the router does not reset.

I don't know what is causing this. Perhaps my ISP, Cox, has made a change to their configuration.

Any suggestion how to fix this?

Disconnect from the modem to stop the resets happening.

Log in to the router with WinSCP and delete everything under /usr/data/bwmon

Reboot router and reconnect to modem. Should stop it.

I believe we fixed this in 1.9.x but I can't honestly remember.

The problem is that those files contain time data.
When the router reboots the time can get out of sync. then the data gets reloaded and it ends up in the "future" (I think).
With the router connected to the Internet, it attempts to sync the time, it panics about the future data, and then reboots.

And the vicious cycle begins again over and over.


Did you happen to have a power outage overnight?
The most common trigger for this is if the power was to be interrupted in the short window (11 minutes I think) between the data being backed up and the time synchronising.

Interesting. I didn't notice a power failure here. Now I know what to do if it ever happens again.
