I have installed Gargoyle 1.9.0 and also a nightly build from 1/4/2016 on my TP-WR841ND v9. Functionality wise it's been stable and no issue so far. I really like the simple GUI layout.
I came across a theme issue. I tried to install few theme from the plugin menu but could not get it to work. It looked like the installation went fine and the screen refreshed but i did not see the Theme menu in setting screen so I can switch to new theme.
Is there any package I need to install or modify or the specific router does not support this option due to space limitation?

With only 4MB flash it is likely a space limitation.

Yes, I can but only option to choose is the "Gargoyle". I believe it's the default one.
What is the path to copy it manually to?
And is there a repository or place I can download themes only?

I just tried installing a theme and it worked fine for me.
Which one in particular did you try?
Does the plugin menu show that it is installed?

The final part of the Theme installation process is that it enables the theme menu so i think something went wrong.
