Wed Jan 6 14:18:48 2016 kern.warn kernel: [ 5683.400000] skbuff: IMQ: kfree_skb: skb->nf_queue_entry != NULL
got this message before it rebooted yet again....
Seems to reboot sporadically.
Only thing I've done recently is added a quota of 0 with throttling to my Chromecast to downgrade netflix quality.

Hi there try this build.
viewtopic.php?f=14&t=8157
Runs much better on my n750 than 1.8 did.

how well do settings from 1.8.x come over ?
I have a lot of static DHCP addresses and quotas ....
Also, is this a fork / dev build different from the regular 1.9.x builds available here?

Additionally, this is somewhat new behavior -- i was running 1.8.0 for several months with limited issues -- wondering if the bandwidth logs need to be cleaned up or some other storage issue....
Code: Select all
Gargoyle Version:1.8.1
Model:WD My Net N600
Device Configuration:Gateway
Memory Usage:20.7MB / 123.4MB (16.8%)
Connections:272/4096
CPU Load Averages:0.06 / 0.07 / 0.08 (1/5/15 minutes)

You can't preserve settings between the two versions, but you can manually save the config files for several things and reapply them. DHCP is one such case.
Regardless, 1.9.0 won't fix this. They both have the same defect.
Fortunately this defect was pointed out only yesterday, so I'm going to investigate the potential fix.
As for restoring your current problem, I'd suggest that booting it up without a WAN connection will not cause the problem to occur (maybe). You could therefore remove the offending quota.
Try using QOS for the same purpose

You can take a back up file from your router now and open it with winrar and extract the files.
You cant flash a back up file but what you can do is use winscp and coppy across your config files.
/etc/ethers
/etc/hosts
They are the ones for your DHCP.
I dont no about others.

Thanks Lantis -- what defect ? the sporadic reboots?
The uptime varies considerably. It could go 8 hours, it could go 4 minutes.
does netflix use a specific port that I can throttle?
Ideally, i could throttle all video streaming ... since our net provider has some sketchy monthly quota going on. (Comcast)

It is to do with how traffic is classified. To be honest with you i don't understand the ins and outs of it myself, but the developer maintaining this module has said that he fixed this issue, we just aren't up to date with his latest fix. We are a month of so behind i think.
It causes this reboot problem. As you say it is sporadic. But all we can do is try and implement this change on our end, and then wait for people like yourself to provide feedback.
Currently no ETA on this fix, but it will be implemented to the 1.9.0 branch of development, not 1.8.1 (probably).
Netflix is hard to tie down with QoS. My thoughts were that you said you view it through a chromecast? The chromecast must have an IP address, so you can filter by traffic that is has a destination of that IP address.
Sounds like the most straightforward way to me.

thanks for the explanation.
Seems like as good a time as any to redo all the ip's anyway ... i want to get away from the 192.168.1.x defaults anyway. lol.

so I tried the QoS thing yesterday ...
with quota and throttling, i had netflix set to 44kbps which mostly worked...
seems QoS uses kibps, but when multiplied by a factor of 8 seemed to choke chromecast netflix....
so i'm back on the quota thing with the incessant reboots ...
