Hello. I have recently converted my DIR-825 to openwrt Kamikaze (r22813) and first tried the luci web interface. However I am interrested in switching to gargoyle as there seems to be a few features in there that would be nice to try out.

The problem is, I am a complete n00b with this kind of setup. I'm quite good with windows but linux based command line installation is defenatly not my thing yet.

So far what I'm guessing here is that i'll reflash the firmware that I used that didnt had luci installed and then install gargoyle.

I read the docs and evrything seems ok but one step.

SSH into the router and take a look at the /etc/opkg.conf file:

You need to add a line to this file, and it will be slightly different depending on whether you have a broadcom or an atheros based router. You can tell by looking at the first line already in the file. In the file above the first line indicates that this is a broadcom router because it ends with /brcm-2.4/packages. If it were an atheros router it would end with /atheros-2.6/packages.

If it's an atheros router, add this line:

src gargoyle http://gargoyle-router.com/packages/kam ... theros-2.6

I can SSH in the router but euh... I have no idea how to edit a file and add this lol. (omg this sounds sooo basic. Feels like not knowing the edit command in dos (but its equivalent in linux) heh.

Any help would be appreciated!

Dir-825 is an ar71xx device. Ar71xx is not officially supported (yet).

There is experimental support, if you are comfortable building from the source in the git repository. However, this is still experimental, and there are no guarantees.

aww damn, just as I found out how to edit the files .

Im defenatly not good enough to try custom stuff so I will wait for official support, I hope you do get it at some point as your implementation/firmware seems quite alot better to what I had.

How about now? Support was just added in the latest experimental release, available for download.

If you are interested in comments / reports, here they are:

1- The QoS management is the best I have ever seen on a router so far. awesome!! Defenatly reaching enterprise levels here. Will have to compare it to those we give to customers at work and will of course have to talk about it over there heh.
2- Quotas! __Awesome__ . No need to say more!
3- Excellent interface but maybe take more advantage of 16:9, 16:10 widescreen monitors?? Loads of unused horizontal screen space in there. Less scrolling?
4- Graphics and stats are very good! (high rez, 15 minute graph is a must) Maybe add the possibility to track more than 3 things?
5- Reboot function doesn't seem to be synced too well. Takes quite a while before it actually shows physically on the router. It takes a good 15 seconds after the display saying that the router is rebooting dissapeared that I actually see the router reboot (leds just turned off and the restart begins at this point). The router is still acessible between that time when the display disappeared and the router actually rebooting.

5- A nice lill feature I had on LUCI was to be able to reconfigure the router's LEDs when possible (not all leds could be changed but some did). It was neat. Since my "WAN" led (yellow/blue planet) is unused it seems, I had it configured to show upload (yellow) download (blue), nice way to see wan traffic when not on the admin interface. Could be tied to some other features too, like QoS (display a specific led state when QoS about to reach the limit. CPU usage level, ram, etc.).

First impressions are great!!! Looking forward to see how this project will progress! Congrats!
