Hi Eric and Forum...

I am so excited, I just downloaded the latest 1.3.4 and what made me take this bold step other than the nice features is actually the newly added feature of bandwidth quota and shaping.

I would like to note a small improvement that will make some difference to a lot of people.

When setting the Wireless MAC filter, there is only a single text box to add the mac address.
When you have two or three MACs that is easy, but like my situation, i have almost 20 MACs to filter so a small "description' box or 'name' would be an extra added value when entering a mac and a corresponding name to it, so that you can do better management later in the future.

Also after checking the qouta shaping screen, is it possible to make it work directly for MACs as well as IP address?
this is helpfull in a scenario where you have DHCP and no static ips, and you want to do qouta management.

EDIT: if I may, not in a lot of places, it only accepts IP, Range of IP, could MAC address also be added in the future?

This should work

On the DCHP page, assign each MAC address a ip, check the [Block MAC addresses assigned a static IP that connect from a different IP] box, then on the quota page just add them by ip since they will effectively have a static ip

That is exactly the way I got it working right now.

But i was hoping that in the future this can be added, just trying to make Gargoyle firmware more versatile and generic.
It wasn't easy for me to change from Tomato after using it for almost 3 years to a new firmware, but like I said, some features just lured me in

It is possible to implement adding multiple MAC addresses at a time. It's not a particularly high priority right now, but it's a good suggestion.

However, it is not possible to implement Quotas (or at least ones that measure download or total bandwidth) that match MAC addresses. The reason why is explained here.

I wasn't aware ath9k had the ablity to block mac's like madwifi at this time. The normal way of using iwpriv and other madwifi commands are gone in this driver, so how is gargoyle blocking macs on the new 11n firwmare or is that still a requested feature?

You're right, the mac filter isn't functional for ath9k yet.

However, it looks like there's a patch to hostapd that has been submitted to openwrt that will fix this: https://dev.openwrt.org/ticket/7856 I'll plan on incorporating this in the next release, if it hasn't been accepted upstream before then.
