WNDR3700 & Gargoyle Questions

Hi guys,

I'm considering of flashing my wndr3700 v1 router with gargoyle and I have a few questions before proceeding.

1)The main reason for flashing my router is QOS. I have a voip home phone and I am tired of having my calls drop when some of my household members are streaming. Is gargoyle able to handle QOS better than the stock version or is it about the same quality?

2) What is the difference between the -NA and non -NA versions?

3) I know how to upgrade the firmware with the .bin file extension but how do you do that with the .img extension which I downloaded?

4) Does anyone have any gotcha's or tips to keep an eye for when flashing my router? This is my main router at home and I'd hate to lose it.

Thanks in advance

1. As long as you can identify where the traffic for the phone is coming from and going to then the QOS will handle the rest. Matching by IP is simplest.

2. The NA version is for "North America". I assume that routers sold in that region have some mild hardware difference which required a different version.

3. The extension doesn't matter too much. What matters is FACTORY vs SYSUPGRADE. Going from stock to gargoyle requires the FACTORY image. Any updates from then on require the SYSUPGRADE image.

4. Flash from a device that isn't likely to crash half way through lol.
If using a laptop, plug it in.
Be patient, it can take some time to complete.
Remember that the default information is 192.168.1.1 and the default password is "password".
Almost all mistakes are recoverable so don't be too scared.

For your first flash, I'd estimate your internet is down for ~1 hour.
I had a friend up and running with a total Internet downtime of 10 minutes now that I have done so several times.

Thank you Lantis for the quick reply and useful tips. I hope to do this within the next couple of weeks. Just trying to get as much info as I can before going through.

Thanks Again,
