Actiontec C1000A

I have the actiontec c1000a DSL modem/router that I got from Century Link. It is listed as an OpenWRT supported router. However, the instructions on this site have many dire warnings against installing the Gargoyle utility on my router. So, a couple questions. 1) does anyone know if I can install gargoyle on this router? 2) what would be the best/safest way to do this? 3) which firmware should I download?
