can i get details on how you're testing lan to wan? also how are you sure that it traverses NAT (which is the real bottleneck)?

Unless you are testing between 2 different SSD drives, you will
not ever hit near gigabit speeds on the router LAN interface.
Maybe with SSD's you could hit near max, but I don't have
2 SSD drives in my computer to test it out.
I've done numerous test over gigabit between
Sata2/Sata3 7200RPM drives and could never get near max
(I couldn't even reach 1/2 gigabit speeds)
transfer speeds as the drives were the bottleneck.

I'm not an expert but I purchased the server version of "LAN speed test" which from my understanding uses RAM
LST Server is an additional feature for Lan Speed Test. By using this configuration the client talks directly to the server through the network with no hard drive limitations. This gives more accurate results of True network performance on the client screen. LST Server also makes it possible to test your WAN (internet) connection!
LAN to WAN, all ports been used but just the Xbox One and my PC rest are idle/Turned off but shows a green light. 4 android device again not been used.
Also has QoS both Download and Upload.

I don't know the connect speed provisioned for this Fibre connection because this is still under the early Fibre trial connection. I assume the max download speed is 100M but I never achieved it, don't know why. The 50M upload speed is non-existent in any of the Fibre plans advertised, so I have no idea why I can get such results.

My own observation indicates I am unable to exceed 80M download using TP-Link TL-WR1043N/ND v2 or v1 even though the connections I used for testing are rated at 100M.
Max WiFi throughput of TP-Link TL-WR1043N/ND v2 or v1 seems to be around 50M even when 300Mbps WiFi is used.
Having said that, previously someone did sent me screenshots of speedtest privately showing that they were able to achieve 114Mbps download with ethernet, 76Mbps download with WiFi using TP-Link TL-WR1043N/ND v2 running Gargoyle 1.7.2 on their Telstra 100M/2M connection. I have never hit such high speed before myself though.
Would be interested to see speedtest from others using 100M or higher connection using Gargoyle router.

Tested with Gargoyle 1.9.0 on an Netgear WNDR3700v2 on a clean install.
I used en Core i5 with an SSD behind the Netgear. Netgear with WAN adapter connected as a 'slave device' to another Gbit router. On this Gbit router, my Zyxel NAS is connected with a single Gbit port.
Usually, I get around 65-80 MB/s read and 55-65MB/s write speeds on the NAS, from any given Gbit connected computer. Figured that this should be fast enough to saturate a non HW-accellerated (as any OpenWRT based device) WAN adapter on my Netgear router. Did an FTP up- and download test in the given setup, these were my results:
Download ~19000kBps
~160 Mbps
Upload: ~23500kBps
~198 Mbps
Funny enough, upload speeds (LAN-WAN) are higher than download speeds (WAN-LAN). Although I really like Gargoyle for all it's features (especially OpenVPN support) and stability, on this hardware it can barely keep up with my internet connection speed (Fiber, 200Mbit symmetrical).
Any suggestions on a new router with decent OpenVPN support (Android phones, Windows laptops)? Asus RT-AC68U or Netgear R7000 are on the shortlist, but I read mixed reviews on both of them, especially on stability.
