Openvpn: Can ping router but not LAN clients

I must be missing something. I am going on a trip for work and would like to be able to access one of my home PC's remotely while away. USB storage is accessible, but I cannot access anything beyond the router on the LAN side.
LAN IP config is 10.0.0.1/255.255.255.0
VPN is 10.8.0.1/255.255.255.0 (have also tried a differing subnet mask)
Router pings fine at 10.0.0.1 and 10.8.0.1, and can access router GUI via both when connected thru OpenVPN from an outside connection. Just can't seem to access anything else. Have tried multiple different settings on the openvpn config page. VPN appears to be fully functional and I even have Internet access using my home IP.
Don't know if maybe I need to setup a static route? But I also thought the router would account for this based on the settings available on the openvpn page.
Any suggestions? Thanks!
