Will this work for me?

I have a rental cabin with Hughesnet satellite Internet service, and I want to set daily data limits for visitors so data hogs don't run through my monthly data allowance before end of month. I gather that off-the-shelf routers don't have this capability, but that Gargoyle firmware would allow me to set these daily limits.
Trouble is, I'm not tech savvy and I'm remote from the cabin site, leaving me reliant on my housekeeper's teenage son to do an installation. Therefore, I'm trying to purchase a router with Gargoyle pre-loaded. On its website, there are two options:
http://www.gargoyle-router.com/shop/pro ... t-router-2
http://www.gargoyle-router.com/shop/pro ... router-1-1
What I can't figure out is whether either of these routers would work for my circumstances. I need a few ports available -- one for the satellite data input, obviously, and I'm not exactly sure what else. (I have satellite TV, for example, but I suspect that doesn't go through the router.)
Can I be at least reasonably sure that one of these two routers (preferably the cheaper one) can substitute for the Netgear router installed by the Hughesnet vendor?

Hi you wood be better off with the Gargoyle Gigabit Router. If you by the cheaper one you wood have to by a swich to give you enough Ethernet ports.

Thanks for the advice! I just bought the Gigabit router.
I wonder if there is a video showing installation of this router and configuration of Gargoyle. I'm not near the site so I'm going to rely on a teenage son of the housekeeper to set it up.

I do not know of a video setup guide sorry
Get your teenage friend to take a photo of the physical connections before disconnections begin!

The physical setup should be pretty easy - simply replace the Netgear with the Gargoyle router.
Be sure to connect the Satellite Modem to the WAN port on the Gargoyle router.
Read Getting Started ....

With any luck, you should be able to choose
Gargoyle - Connection - Basic - Internet/WAN - DHCP(Wired)
during the initial setup to get basic internet connectivity.
This common scenario should help with the daily limits ...

Thanks, Nworbnhoj! That's just what I needed, and the scenario you referenced is perfect.

I had the teenager install the router and set a daily data limit of 100MB per device. I found that I was still running out of data before the end of the month. I asked him to adjust it downward to 75MB per device.
This time, however, he wasn't able to change the setting. He said he followed the instructions again but got an error saying the server had not sent data.
So now I'm at a loss. It seems I need tech support, but TP-Link presumably can't help me with the Gargoyle firmware. And I'm assuming it's not possible to get phone support for Gargoyle.
Any suggestions??

I suspect TP-Link will not show much interest

This is a little weird but sounds a little like a temporary issue with connectivity or the browser/PC making the changes. As a SIMPLE first step I would ask your young friend to reboot both the router and the PC doing the changes.
I am happy to take a call (in Australia) or chat via Google chat or such if you like. Send me a PM private message

I'd be happy to take the call in NZ too next time I am over. Good luck in the game
