simple WAN throttling

Hi, just unpacked a new D-Link DIR-835 router preinstalled with 1.7.1 and got it up and running without any hiccups. In my lab, we simply want to throttle the overall bandwidth of the router to cap the max instantaneous load to 4Mb/s. Since this is not an option anywhere that I can find, I went into Firewall/Quotas/Add New Quota and selected Entire Local Network, set the max Total Up+Down to a small number (1MB) and then was given the option to Throttle Bandwidth where I set the Upload Limit and the Download Limit to 625 KB/s. Does this seem to be the most efficient way to globally throttle bandwidth? Appreciate any alternatives unless I nailed this :)

This is easiest done just by entering your desired link speeds on the QoS upload and download pages and enabling QoS on both pages.

Since I'm new to router networking, I haven't tackled the QoS pages yet. When I tried activating the defaults, my Internet access went down. I'm still running through the documentation on what classes and services I might need (e.g. fast versus slow, etc.). I'll keep exploring, thanks!
