The OpenWRT support list only includes TL-WR740N v1 v3 & v4.23

http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/start

And all of these versions only have 4MB of FLASH so will not run the latest versions of Gargoyle

Do you know how mush Flash your V5 has?

I have an international v5.0 and it uses the same AR9331 and 4MB flash and 32MB RAM as the v4. It's just a matter of fixing the firmware header/target... Shouldn't be too hard for the guys who actually made the v4 firmware ;)

@emukim reports that Gargoyle 1.8.0 is up and running on a 941ND v9 which has 32MB Ram and 4MB flash so it seems likely

Wonder if it would make sense to load OpenWRT then sysupgrade to Gargoyle 1.8.0, wiping settings in the NVRAM...

Pisses me off that 740Nv4 literally disappeared from the shelves overnight, and it had an unbeatable value when used with Gargoyle.

## EDIT ##

I can confirm that it is possible to flash Gargoyle for v4 and that it works without issues.

First, flash the OpenWRT firmware build for v5 from irwan6179 found here.
Browse the router's webpage and complete the initial setup, making sure SSH is enabled and working.
Download the latest Gargoyle for 740N v4 sysupgrade
Then, connect to the router using SCP (WinSCP if on Windows), and copy the Gargoyle sysupgrade.bin to /tmp
SSH into the router using PuTTY or any other SSH client of your choice
CD to /tmp then perform sysupgrade -n -v -F /tmp/sysupgrade.bin
This should reboot the router after it's finished and load Gargoyle without issues.

Mind you, Gargoyle will say the router is a v4 (and won't exactly be wrong), but otherwise everything functions without issues (tested for 24 hours now, no issues found).

Of course, do this at your own risk, yadda yadda...
