Connect a wlan router behind a cable router

I want to connect a wlan router with Gargoyle installed behind a cable router. Unfortunately there is no way to replace a cable router with a wlan router. You can only connect the wlan router to the cable router.
I would use TL-WDR3600 I think. What about the traffic control because I will only use the wlan router with gargoyle for the internet.
Someone could still connect a computer to the cable router without gargoyle. Would it be still possible to
control whole traffic on the connected wlan router with gargoyle installed? I will control whole traffic LAN and WLAN. Moreover it could be a security thread because the cable router is still connected to the internet and everybody knows that these routers have very weak points.

Ask your ISP if you can put your wlan router in modem mode?

Yes, I think this could be the solution! But are you sure that I can use the same scenario with a cable modem? I guess it should work there too. First I will try it out on a adsl router in my friends home.

I have bought the WR1043-ND router but I have problems to establish an internet connection behind my first router. Yesterday it worked but today after I have unplugged everything and set up old configuration it doesn't work anymore.
I will tell you how I do it. First I connect to my first router web interface and disable dhcp server on the contrary I enable static IP and enable PPPoE.
Then I set up on my PC a static IP with the gateway of the the new router 192.168.0.1. Of course I also connect the WAN port of the WR1043 to some LAN-Port of the old router. Moreover I connect my PC with the new router. My network-manager shows me that there is an internet connection. Unfortunately, no sites are loading.
It doesn't work and this is very confusing, I don't know what I am doing wrong.

Do you think just PPPoE without setting up a static IP? I doubt it will work at all. On my old router I can only set up PPPoE without any bridge mode option. There are only rudimentary settings. Moreover usually you need to set up a static IP too. Does it work for you or somebody just with PPPoE?

If you can't setup a bridge then no it won't work. Apologies.

No problem - we should be able to get it sorted out!
Have another look at this scenario:
http://www.gargoyle-router.com/wiki/dok ... ario-modem
- On your "first" router/modem you have PPPoE enabled and a LAN address of 192.168.0.1
- you have connected the "first" router LAN to the WR1043-ND WAN
- On your WR1043-ND you should setup Gargoyle - Connection - Basic - Connect via Static IP (Wired) with Static IP = 192.168.0.2
- On your WR1043-ND you should setup Gargoyle - Connection - DHCP - LAN DHCP Server Enabled
- Connect your PC to the WR1043-ND LAN and allow the IP address to be assigned by automatic DHCP
can you get to the Internet now?
