Phone cannot connect to router running gargoyle

I am having a really strange error: my Moto G cannot connect to Tp-link tl-wdr3600 v.15 with gargoyle-ispy 2015-March-27 firmware (current setting: dual-band, WPA2-PSK, 20 MHz width)
I tried everything I could with the phone to no avail: clear cache partition, factory reset, turn off wifi optimization etc. I also tried different channel on the router but nothing really worked out
Today I tested with my old Buffalo WHR-300HP2 router running on dd-wrt (setting: NG-Mixed, WPA2-PSK + AES, 20 MHz width) and boom the phone now can connect to wireless network
Anybody has any idea what went wrong with the tp-link running gargoyle firmware? Thanks for any suggestion
