every time i try and use the factory upgrade option it comes up with "please select the correct file. The file format is *.chk"

in trying to install this file http://www.gargoyle-router.com/download ... pgrade.tar

Any help would be appreciated

Shorten the filename. This router doesn't like a long filename.

Make sure it is the right version for your router.

I'd love to put it on my v4 WNDR3800 but no support yet.

yeah i already shortened it before i tried. it says its for the version of the router i have.

If all else fails install openwrt then install gargoyle

yeah can i ask how exactly i would do that as i have been staring at the page you linked for a few days now and still have no idea what to do. i enabled telnet on the router. thats as far as i got

am i surpossed to be TFTPing new firmware to the router? do i use the *.img or *.tar file for that?

I must be missing something. i can't get it to tftp at all. i cant get the router into recovery mode. i followed the instructions. they say just hit upgrade or send the command while its booting up but it just times out every time.
