My WNDR3700 V2 running gargoyle has been chugging along well in my network for several years. Recently the the newest generation of "high power" routers has been catching my eye so I decided to try a couple, namely the Asus RT-AC87, and the Netgear R7500. To my surprise, in my network which is made up of mostly hardwired gigabit connections running on a 15/1 dsl WAN both of the "new" routers seem to be VERY poor at handling QOS up/down compared to my 3700V2. I am assuming it's the QOS features of Gargoyle that are enabling the 3700V2 to outperform these new hardware "powerhouses"?

Am I wasting time and money trying these new devices? (if it ain't broke, don't fix it?)

Compare the cpu performance of those routers and you will see why... Openwrt has a page detailing the cpu performance of different SoC.
