OpenVPN server IP in the same IP range of router possible?

Hello Everyone,

I posted this in the network forum as well.... Wasn't sure which forum would be better....

I have been using Gargoyle firmware on my older white 1043nd for quite sometime. At the time of install I chose v1.5.6 which was I believe the stable one at the time.

Everything has been running like a top and has mostly been set and forget. I have QOS and OpenVPN working fine. I have been using Plex for a LONG while inside of my local network and that has been working perfect.

Recently I got some free licences for Plex on my android devices. Rather then poking a hole in my firewall to make all that work I decided to use my current and functioning OpenVPN connections to just connect that way. Plex appears to have a limitation where it can only auto see the Plex server if it is in the same IP range as the connected client. My routers current lan IP is the default 192.168.1.1 and the OpenVPN server will work on 192.168.2.1 just fine. Thus they just can't or won't see each other properly.

I have been messing around with trying to get the OpenVPN server on 192.168.1.5 and assign the test client to an open IP of 192.168.1.80
I can get it to connect, on my android device, however I can't seem to get the internet or anything to work. It connects and will stay connected then just stops receiving data. It does the same if I leave the OpenVPN server IP to 192.168.2.1 and make the client 192.168.1.80.

I am assuming this is an issue with a routing conflict, however I am not 100% sure. Before I go through the trouble of upgrading to 1.6.2(stable) does anyone know if this is even possible? Or does OpenVPN "have" to be in another ip range to work?(routing) I read through the documentation/forums and could not find the answer.

At this point I am a bit stumped.....

My understanding is you can't use the same subnet address

I've done a quick read

https://plex.tv/

Can you post some screen shots of your Gargoyle OpenVPN setup pages.

More information about your plex set-up would also be helpful
