Hi all,
I am after some help setting up an existing network in a different config as i have moved house.

I previously had a Netgear DG834G v5 in bridge mode feeding ADSL to a gargoyle router (NETGEAR NDR3700v2) with several wired and wireless devices connected.
See this post for details of that -> http://www.gargoyle-router.com/phpbb/vi ... php?t=3566

All working perfectly

In my new house i do not have a phone socket in the lounge room and so need a diff setup
I would like to have the modem in the front room serving wireless and one cable connection.
and the NDR3700v2 in the lounge, connecting to the DG834G wirelessly with several wired connections.

Like so:

(ignore the IP addresses on the machines they are just the old values)

What is the best way to go about this?
Gateway?
Wireless bridge? Will wireless bridge mean i get the NDR3700v2 as a wireless AP for the rear of the house also?

cheers

Save yourself a LOT of hassle and get one of these:

You can then connect the NDR3700 WAN port up over wire
and not have to worry about a wireless bridge setup

You can find them on sale all the time

I run multiple wireless bridges in my house and I'm constantly
tweaking them (but I'm also testing OpenWRT trunk builds as well)

Thanks for your reply, and yes i understand that moving the phone outlet or getting a EOP adapter would be best and will prob end up doing that but for now i just want it to work with what i have on hand.

I tried this last night and it basically worked but with some hiccups.
It appears the DCHP? is getting messed up somewhere
All devices connected to the gargoyle router wired or wireless are getting the same MAC address
It also seems like it is messing up some internal connections – i don't seem to be able to connect to XBMC running on the HTPC via the remote app or YATSE even after it is either autodetected or i enter the new IP of the machine maually

Is this normal or must i change some settings?

This is what i ended up with

DG834G LAN TCP/IP Setup

----------------------------------------
IP Address: 192.168.1.1
IP Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
✓ Use Router as DHCP Server
Starting IP Address 192.168.1.3
Ending IP Address 192.168.1.254

You must have different local IPs on the first router and second router.

Example: First router got dhcp from 192.168.1.1
Second must be i think, 192.168.2.1

Subnet mask can be the same.

You should put DG834G in gateway mode.

Then you should use wireless bridge/repeater and WDS on second router. Make sure all wireless settings are the same as on DG834G. Set bridge IP to 192.168.1.2, set same subnet mask as on first router and use 192.168.1.1 as AP/Gateway IP.
